Product Designer
TL;DR
Own the interaction quality of Pantheon across platform, desktop, and mobile. Make core consumer surfaces easier to understand and faster to use, with special attention to navigation, information hierarchy, tables, and the details people meet every day.
Why this role exists
Pantheon has a growing set of surfaces across the web platform, desktop application, and mobile application. The core experience needs a designer who can see the whole system while making the next screen better. Navigation, dense tables, empty states, and small interaction decisions shape whether the product feels coherent and trustworthy in daily use.
You will work directly with the founder, Technical Product Manager, and engineers to bring design judgment into the product process. The mandate is hands-on: study the real workflows, simplify the confusing parts, prototype a better answer, and stay with the work until it ships well on each device.
What you will own
- Core product flows. Improve the paths people use most across platform, desktop, and mobile, from first orientation through repeated daily work.
- Navigation and information architecture. Help people understand where they are, find what they need, and move between related work without losing context.
- Tables and dense interfaces. Design hierarchy, scanning, filtering, selection, editing, and responsive behavior for information-heavy screens.
- Interaction detail. Specify states, feedback, accessibility, keyboard and touch behavior, and the small transitions that make a product feel dependable.
- Shared patterns. Build a practical design system with engineers so common controls and behaviors stay consistent while each client respects its platform.
- Validation and delivery. Observe users, test prototypes, explain tradeoffs, and work with engineers through implementation and review rather than handing off static screens.
How you will work with the team
The founder and Technical Product Manager own product direction and priorities. You own the design exploration and interaction decisions within that direction, bringing evidence when the problem needs reframing. Engineers own technical implementation and bring platform constraints into the design early. You will work with the Mobile & Desktop Engineer on native-feeling behavior and with core engineering on shared patterns and complex web surfaces.
The same product may need different layouts or controls on a phone, in a desktop window, and in a browser. Your job is to make those choices intentional and coherent, not force one screenshot across three clients.
What we are looking for
- You have shipped product design for complex software people use regularly, and can explain what improved after release.
- You have strong information architecture and interaction design judgment, especially for navigation and dense data views.
- You can design for both pointer and touch interaction and understand the practical differences between web, desktop, and mobile.
- You are comfortable with accessibility, responsive behavior, empty and error states, and design QA.
- You can work directly with engineers, use existing components thoughtfully, and make precise decisions without a large design organization around you.
- You are based in the United States or Canada.
What would make you stand out
- You can show a table, inbox, editor, or operational workspace that became easier to scan and use because of your work.
- You have improved navigation across a product with several connected areas or device types.
- You have designed and reviewed shipped work across web, desktop, and mobile.
- You can explain a time you simplified a flow by removing options or steps after seeing people struggle with it.
How we work
We are a small, distributed team that ships continuously and uses AI tooling where it helps. You will report to the founder, work closely with the Technical Product Manager and engineers, and have direct access to customer context. You will have room to establish useful design patterns, but the first priority is better shipped product.
Success means people move through the core surfaces with less friction, engineers have clearer interaction decisions, and the platform, desktop, and mobile applications feel like parts of one considered product.
Compensation and process
The package will combine cash compensation and meaningful equity. We will align on expectations early in the process.
- A conversation with the founder about your design work and the role.
- A portfolio walkthrough focused on a complex product flow you improved and shipped.
- A paid, scoped working discussion with product and engineering on a real interaction problem.
- A final conversation on the mandate, compensation, and your questions.
